Lake Pedder Kayak Tour

Our Lake Pedder Kayak Adventure can be best described as purchasing a VIP backstage pass to our local region. A must-do half-day trip which combines adventure kayaking, world-class produce with jaw-dropping rugged Tasmanian mountain views. Be immersed in Tasmania’s UNESCO World Heritage Listed Wilderness and exactly where the Greens Party began!!

Explore Lake Pedder’s amber waters and secret quartzite beaches while untangling the region’s compelling history from a local guide. The Lake Pedder Kayak Tour is perfect for first-time paddlers as well as families and guests wanting to explore our spectacular Western Wilds wilderness. Tour includes morning tea and refreshments. No prior kayaking experience is necessary.

The Pedder Wilderness Lodge exists primarily for Hydro Tasmania due to current upgrades at Gordon Dam and Edgar Campground. Tourism accommodation is inconsistent. Please check the PWL website for up-to-date availability regarding accommodation.

While accommodation is temporarily unavailable and inconsistent, Twelvetrees Bar & Restaurant remains open daily, offering lunch from 12 pm to 3 pm. Coffee and fuel are also available from 10 am to 4 pm to visitors. Please book ahead. Tandem kayaks unless organised directly.

Pedder Wilderness Lodge – the pick-up location for this tour.

Maydena: About 1 hour from the tour pick-up location at Strathgordon. There is also a mix of accommodation around Mount Field National Park area. We highly recommend Tyenna River Cottage, Maydena Cabins and Alpaca’s and Russell Falls Cottages and Camping at Mount Field National Park.

Camping: Options available at Ted’s Beach. This is a free camp, but Parks passes are required. Obtain passes at Mount Field National Park. Stove camp only. Campground is closed at Scotts Peak due to Hydro Works

Fishing & Licences:

Fishing licences are required.

Fishing is available all year round at Lake Pedder.

Kayaking:

All kayaks are super stable Hobie tandems with deluxe, fully adjustable seats. Singles can be arranged on request.

Basic swimming ability required. Capsizing is extremely unlikely, and lifejackets are provided.

No paddling experience necessary. You must be able to sit seated comfortably for up to 3 hours.

We do not offer rentals due to insurance reasons, and the Lake is essentially open water, and local knowledge is essential.
